There are only eleven days left to file or a request for an extension for your 2015 taxes. The IRS has warned of a steep increase this year in the amount of IRS scams aimed at getting your personal information.
David Weiss with News For You has more details…
Once again the IRS is receiving lots of complaints about fake IRS agents calling tax payers, resulting in millions of dollars in payments by victims.
So how would the IRS get in touch with you if they needed to?
Bill Brunson of the IRS says you would receive a notice in the mail, not a phone call.
Brunson: “These tax scammers will make up names, make up badge numbers, simply hang up the phone.”
By the way, this is a sample of what one of these scam phone calls sounds like
“Ignoring this will be an intentional attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense.”
As scary as that sounds, remembers it’s a scam.
