Team Alaska Awarded Hodgson Trophy For 2016 AWG: 10th Anniversary Celebration Planned For April 5th

Arctic Winter Games Team Alaska was awarded the Hodgson Trophy for best overall sportsmanship during the 2016 Arctic Winter Games, the fifth time Team Alaska has been honor for sportsmanship since the Hodgson Trophy was first presented in 1978.

Team Alaska previously won the Hodgson Trophy in 2010 and Team Alaska won the award in 2006, when the Kenai Peninsula hosted the 2006 Arctic Winter Games.

10th Anniversary Celebration: April 5th

A 10th anniversary celebration of the Kenai Peninsula’s 2006 AWG is being planned for Tuesday, April 5th, with ceremonies at the Borough Building and at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex.

Activities will begin with the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assembly presenting a proclamation at the Arctic Winter Games cauldron in front of the Borough Building around 6:00 p.m.  Activities will then move to the SRSC for refreshments, music, a sideshow, door prizes and auction items.

Team Alaska invites all the past and present Arctic Winter Games participants and volunteers to the 10-year anniversary reunion of the Kenai Peninsula Borough hosting the international athletic and cultural event & celebration of the recently returning participants of the 2016 Arctic Winter Games in Nuuk, Greenland March 5th-12th.

Wear your AWG clothing, bring your photos, medals and your good memories to the KPB Assembly meeting, where a proclamation will be read and a photo will be taken in front of the cauldron.  The celebration will continue at the Soldotna Regional Sports Complex, for refreshments, music, a sideshow, door prizes and auction items.
