The 30th Annual SoHi Invitational, renamed the Ted McKenney Cross Country Invitational, opens the high school running regular season on Saturday with racing on the Tsalteshi Trails at Skyview Middle School.
Kenai Peninsula Borough teams including Soldotna, Kenai, Homer, Nikiski, Ninilchik, Nikolaevsk, and Seward have been invited. Teams may enter seven runners in the varsity race with all other runners eligible for the open races.
Entry Deadlines
All entries are due by noon on Tuesday, August 18th on athletic.net. Also, with the possibility of the Central Peninsula moving into the high risk zone, SoHi will be updating teams throughout the week regarding the status of the meet. As of right now, the central peninsula is still in the medium risk zone and SoHi is planning on hosting Saturday.
Race Times & Guidelines
Pre-Race
Coaches’ meeting will occur in the Skyview Library at 10:00 a.m. All coaches and event workers will be screened prior to entering the library.
Starting at 10:00 am, teams will be permitted to walk the course according to their start time:
i.e. Kenai – 10:00 am, Homer – 10:10 am, Nikiski – 10:20 am, etc. While walking the course, coaches and athletes must wear face masks.
Race Schedule
Multiple races will be held and will be separated by time.
12:00 pm – Open Girls
–15 minutes after the final participant finishes in the Open Girls Race – start the Open Boys Race (approximately 12:45 pm)
–15 minutes after the final participant finishes in the Open Boys Race – start the Varsity Girls Race (approximately 1:30 pm)
–15 minutes after the final participant finishes in the Varsity Girls Race – start the Varsity Boys Race (approximately 2:15 pm)
Race Format
Starts will be done in wave, with pods of athletes being sent out at a time. Finish corrals will be used at finish line in order to help social distancing of participants. Teams should not mass collect warm-ups at the start area.
COVID Precautions
All event workers should wear mask and gloves.
