Teenagers Eligible For Youth Conservation Corps Jobs

The Kenai National Wildlife Refuge is accepting applications for Youth Conservation Corps jobs. Teenagers aged 15 – 18 who live in or have lodging available in the local commuting area are eligible. Applications may be picked up at Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, Alaska Employment Service Office in Kenai, or from local high school career counseling offices.

 

To be eligible for the Youth Conservation Corps, you must:

  1. be at least 15 years of age and no older than 18 years of age during the period of employment, June 8 to July 30;
  2. be able to work the entire eight weeks;
  3. have housing in the community and have transportation on a daily basis to and from the refuge headquarters on Ski Hill Road in Soldotna;
  4. wear the refuge uniform in a neat, clean manner;
  5. be prepared to work outdoors on rainy days;
  6. currently have or be able to obtain a banking account to receive direct deposit payroll transactions;
  7. be able to swim 100 yards unassisted. Enrollees must be in good health and physically fit. A health certificate will be required for enrollment in the program.

 

The positions will be filled in a random selection process and selected applicants will be notified by phone no later than April 24th. Youth will work 40 hours each week from June 8th through July 30th and receive $11.25 per hour. Job duties will include trail maintenance, cabin restoration, campground clean-up, litter collection, biological assistance, and visitor information services.

 

Applications are being accepted March 9 through April 17. All applications must be received at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters on Ski Hill Road by close of business on April 17.

 

Youth Conservation Corps was established on August 13, 1971 to introduce conservation and preservation to youth in public lands. The YCC program is administered by the following: The National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Forest Service, and The Bureau of Land Management.
