The Anchorage sports dome facility, “The Dome”, collapsed before midnight Saturday under the apparent weight of recent snow in the Anchorage bowl.
The Dome had been evacuated earlier in the day on Saturday as the ceiling of the dome began sagging over the main playing fields.
According to Tim Woolston, spokesman for The Dome on Saturday, people were evacuated ” because of indications that the roof was bowing due to heavy snow load,” Tim Woolston added, “Several members of the management team and the board chairman were inside when the roof started to collapse just before midnight but they had plenty of time to evacuate,”
