Theft Prevention Improving at Local Store

Over the past week the Soldotna Police Department has responded to two shoplifters at Sportsman’s Warehouse in Soldotna, totaling over $670.00.

 

Manager Eric Dahlman said he has heard the theft is widespread but their store has been improving theft reduction techniques.

 

Dahlman: “We have an excellent loss prevention team here that is certified in making stops and apprehensions to obviously be an asset to our company and that’s what they’re in place for and they’re doing a good job and people are seeing that.”

 

Soldotna Police responded to the report of a shoplifter on January 20 where they contacted 32 year-old Courtney Dewinter of Homer and investigation revealed she had removed $533.38 worth of merchandise without paying.

 

Dewinter was also found to be in possession of marijuana. She was arrested for theft in the third degree and misconduct involving a controlled substance in the sixth degree.

 

On January 22 Soldotna Police responded to another report of a shoplifter, where they found a 17 year-old male from Palmer, AK had removed $144.97 worth of merchandise without paying. He was released to a responsible adult, charged with theft in the fourth degree and forwarded to juvenile intake.
