Three marathon runners from the Soldotna-Kenai area completed the 2018 Boston Marathon run through the streets of Boston and the Boston area in Massachusetts on Monday, April 16th.
Runners battled the grueling, hilly Boston Marathon course and weather conditions which included cold temperatures and wind.
For the first time in 33 years, an American woman raced to the championship in Boston with Desiree Linden winning the women’s race in a time of 2 hours, 39 minutes and 53 seconds. Japan’s Yuki Kawauchi won the men’s division in 2:15:53.

Soldotna’s Gabriel Juliussen, age 45, posted the fastest time for a peninsula runner in the Boston Marathon with a time of 3:25.03, good for 899 in his division.
Kenai’s Bill Wood, age 55,, raced to a 193rd place in his division with a time of 3:30.16.
Soldotna’s Lisa Juliussen, age 46, completed the course in 351st in her division with a time of 3:46.51.
(other area runners may have completed the Boston Marathon, however were not listed as being from central peninsula)
