Three different individuals were arrested for burglary in unrelated incidents on the same day last week. Jay De Owen, 57 of Nikiski, and Heather Walton, 45 of Nikiski, are accused of burglarizing a residence in Nikiski on Wednesday, Nov. 15, the same day that Travis Brazington, 32 of Sterling, was arrested for a burglary committed in the Soldotna/Sterling area.
Soldotna Troopers received a report of a residential burglary alarm with multiple activations Wednesday, and responded to the residence. Once there, Troopers discovered that the residence had been burglarized and numerous items, including 11 firearms, were stolen.
The Soldotna AST K9 unit with K9 Olex was brought in to track the perpetrator, and as a result Brazington was located and arrested.
Brazington was remanded on one count of Burglary in the first degree, one count of Criminal Mischief in the third degree, one count of Misconduct Involving Weapons in the third degree, and eleven counts of Theft in the second degree.
The same day, just after 6:00 pm, AST received a report of a break-in at an address in Nikiski. Upon responding to the scene, Troopers contacted De Owen and Walton, and upon investigation determined the pair had broken a back window and entered a building stealing numerous items.
In addition to the thefts, it was also discovered that De Own was in possession of drug paraphernalia and under the influence of drugs at the time. He was also in possession of a handgun.
Owen was arrested for first degree burglary, fourth degree theft, fourth degree criminal mischief, and fourth degree misconduct involving weapons. Walton was arrested for second degree burglary, fourth degree theft, and fourth degree criminal mischief.
Both were remanded at the Wildwood pretrial center.
