The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported 17 new positive COVID-19 cases in their Thursday update, including three in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Two cases are in Homer and one from an area of the Kenai Peninsula with fewer than 1,000 residents.
There were also four cases out of Anchorage, two from North Pole, two from Juneau, two from Sitka, one in Kodiak, one from Fairbanks, one from Palmer, and one from the Northwest Arctic Borough.
The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Kenai Peninsula is 65. The number of active cases in the state of Alaska is now 202. That is the highest recorded count of active COVID-19 cases to date in Alaska. Yesterday marked the highest total since the pandemic began, and today topped that total as active cases continue to rise in Alaska.
A total of 69,011 tests have been administered in Alaska thus far, which includes 4,040 in the Kenai Peninsula.
These cases are reported using the state’s timetable of reporting counts: 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on June 10.
