The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reported eight new positive COVID-19 cases in their Thursday update, including three in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. One case is out of Soldotna, one case out of Homer, and one case out of Anchor Point.

Today’s press release contained incorrect information about nonresident cases. The correct counts from yesterday’s cases are Valdez-Cordova Census Area (10), Aleutians West Census Area (3), Kenai Peninsula Borough (2), Anchorage (1), Kodiak (1) and Sitka City and Borough (1). Whitter has a total of 11 cases, but one of those was recorded on June 1, 2020. Of the 18 nonresident cases, 17 are in seafood industry workers; the Sitka case is listed as “other industry.”

Please note the Whittier cases were initially reported on the data dashboard as Kenai Peninsula Borough cases. Those cases will be corrected to the Valdez-Cordova Census Area with the next update.

The number of active cases of COVID-19 patients in the state is 127. The last time the active case count was as high was on April 17 when the total matched Thursday’s total of 127.  There have been a total of 513 cumulative positive COVID-19 cases in Alaska, with 376 designated as recovered.

One new hospitalization has been reported, making that total 48. No new fatalities were reported, with that total remaining at ten.

These cases are reported using the state’s timetable of reporting counts: 12:00 a.m. until 11:59 p.m. on June 3.
