Virus worries prompt some post-race changes for the Iditarod
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — While most major sporting events have been canceled, mushers in the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race continue their 1,000-mile march west across Alaska. But race officials have announced post-race changes in Nome, the Bering Sea community where the race ends. Officials have postponed both the Meet the Mushers event and the awards banquet set for next week. Officials in Nome are closing most city buildings to the public, except for the city’s mini-convention center, which serves as race headquarters. However, the city will be limiting the number of people allowed inside. That number has yet to be determined.
