Town Hall To Discuss Safe Voting Options In Alaska, Just Ahead Of August Ballot

A virtual town hall is being hosted to discuss the options for how to vote safely in the State of Alaska. The featured guests will be Lieutenant Governor Kevin Meyer and Director of Elections Gail Fenumiai. The next ballot, featuring several state legislative races along with a U.S. Senate and U.S. House primary, is right around the corner on August 18.

The town hall is being hosted by AARP Alaska. Their aim is to answer questions regarding the commonly-discussed voting options that Alaskans have. For those nervous about going to a polling place, what is the process for absentee voting? To secure a vote, what is the procedure for early voting? What are the deadlines involved that should be marked on the calendar of Alaska voters? Meyer and Fenmiai aim to discuss the aforementioned questions in detail.

 

AARP Alaska’s Sarana Schell explains: “Normally, voting is simple: you cast your vote. In this pandemic, though, if you want to vote from home, now’s the time to make your voting plan. The state will mail voters 65 and older an application for an absentee ballot. But, other voters will need to ask for one. If you have questions, you’re not alone. We’re holding this town hall to provide answers. Remember, Alaska has a history of close elections. Your vote counts.”

 

AARP is a non-partisan, nonprofit organization with 87,000 members in Alaska.
