Track Performances At Homer Invitational Earn State Best Rankings

The Homer Invitational Track and Field Meet, held at Homer High School on Saturday, featured numerous performances which rank in the Alaska top five performance list including nine results posted by central peninsula athletes.

 

The Homer Mariner girls and the Kodiak Bear boys earned the team titles.  The Homer girls amassing 116 points, followed by SoHi with 80 points.  For the boys, Kodiak collected 70 points and Palmer 62.

 

Top results in the boys competition: Central Peninsula athletes

Ian Johnson, from Nikiski, threw the discus 135″ 5″ to top the field and to climb to the top of the Alaska state best list.

SoHi’s Brenner Furlong raced to a win in the 400M dash and posted the second-fastest 400M time for the state best list with a time of 51.57.  Furlong also placed second in the 200M.

Kenai’s Jarrett Wilson won the 300M hurdles.   Jarrett also finished second in the 110M hurdle race and posted the state’s 5th fastest time in 16.74.  SoHi’s Logan Schrader placed second in the 300M hurdles.

Kenai’s Karl Danielson jumped 40′ in the triple jump, good for second in the meet.  SoHi’s Logan Schrader placed second in the 300M hurdles.

SoHi’s 4X100M relay team also place first at the Homer Invitational and the Stars posted the state’s fifth fastest time in the 4X400M relay.

 

Top results in the girls competition: Central Peninsula athletes

SoHi’s Emily Pieh threw the discus 115’5″ for second place in the meet and second on the Alaska state best list.

Ituau Tuisaula, also from SoHi, muscled the shot put 36′ 10 1/2″ for first place and second on the state best list.

SoHi won the 4X400M relay, good for fifth on the list.

The Stars Kylie Ness raced to a victory in the 100M hurdles.

Kenai’s Jaycie Calvert recorded a 12:10.83 for second in the 3200M, ranking fourth on the state best list.

KCHS’s Hayley Maw broke the 13 second mark with a 12.94 in the 100M, good for second in the meet and fourth in the state.

 

The Kenai Invitational Track and Field Meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, April 27-28 at KCHS.
