Lead by middle distance and distance runner’s performances throughout the two-day 2015 Region III Track and Field Championships, athletes combined to set eleven new Region III track records and set a minimum of nine new state best performances for 2015.
The Kenai Kardinal girls and the Kodiak Boys won the 4A team championships in a meet dominated by one outstanding finish after another on the track at Kenai Central High School. Anchorage Christian School captured both the girls and boys 3A team titles.
Top Girls Performances at Region III Track
Allie Ostrander, KCHS: Three Region III 4A championship runs and three Region III records: 800M, 1600M, 3200M. All times are state bests for 2015. Allie’s 3200M time is the fastest in the nation for 2015.
Tanner Ealum, ACS: Three Region III 3A championships and three Region III records: 100M, 200M, 400M.
SoHi Girls 4X800M Relay: Region III record of 9:28.79, surpasses standing state record.
Chase Stevens, Colony: 4A champion in 100M hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump (meet’s only 4 individual event champion)
Kyla Whannell, KCHS: 4A 100M winner
Daisy Nelson, SoHi: 4A 200M winner
Dani McCormick, SoHi: 4A 400M winner
Katie Kilfoyle, KCHS: 4A 300M Hurdle winner
Abby Beck, KCHS: 4A Discus champion
Top Boys Performances at Region III Track
Levi Thomet, Kodiak: Three Region III 4A championship runs and three Region III records: 800M, 1600M, 3200M. The 1600M and 3200M times are state bests for 2015.
Tim Duke, SoHi: Region III 4A champion in 110M and 300M hurdles. New Region III record in 300M hurdles; state best time in both hurdles.
Josh Jackman, KCHS: 4A Long Jump champion
1600M Run: Thomet of Kodiak set Region III record and state best, while Kenai’s Jonah Theisen and Kodiak’s Levi Fried also ran under region record time.
1600M Relay: Kenai boys team of Jordan Theisen, Jonah Theisen, Josh Jackman and Travis Cooper set KCHS school record and run state’s third fast time of 2015.
Mike Todd, ACS: 3A champion in 400M and 800M events.
Region II Track & Field Championships
Madison Orth from Cook Inlet Academy won the 100M dash and the 100M hurdles and finshed second in the long jump and triple jump.
CIA’s Kendall Taplin won the girls discus and CIA’s John Grossl won the boys discus.
State Track Qualifiers
All region champions automatically qualify to the 2015 ASAA State Track and Field Championships. Additional state qualifiers will be announced on Tuesday, May 26th.
The state championships will be hosted at Dimond High in Anchorage on Friday and Saturday, May 29-30.
