Trooper Citizen Academy Still Looking to Fill Spots

The third Kenai Peninsula State Troopers Citizen’s Academy is still looking to fill a few spots before the 12 week course starts January 13.

 

Lieutenant Dane Gilmore with the Troopers said the academy is not intended as a recruitment but open to anyone who wants to be informed.

Lt. Gilmore: “It’s a broad overview of the various functions that the Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers have particularly on the Kenai Peninsula and other representatives of the criminal justice system, the District Attorney’s office, the court system, things along that lines so that people that get done with the 12 weeks can better understand the realities of the criminal justice process and law enforcement on the Kenai Peninsula.”

 

Ryan Kapp is an academy alumni and said he definitely has a deeper understanding of the local troopers.

Kapp: “Oh it was a great experience, I was more interested in learning more about the capabilities of the troopers, the challenges they face and just more in depth understanding and it definitely did that. The dedication and commitment of the officers that came to present to us each night was just really phenomenal and I really earned a new level of respect for the boys in blue if you will.”

 

Anyone interested may go to the Alaska State Trooper website, print off the academy application, fill it out and drop it off at the Soldotna State Troopers Post.
