The Alaska State Troopers conducted another high visibility anti DUI Enforcement Effort on Superbowl weekend.
From 12:01 am February 1 through 6 am the morning after, trooper patrol arrested four individuals for misdemeanor DUIs but no felony DUIs.
Those numbers are down compared to the high visibility effort on Halloween 2014, where there were nine DUI arrests.
Spokeswoman Megan Peters with the Troopers detailed what the efforts aim to do.
Peters: “And the whole point of that is people know we’re on the roadways and they can see us, they’ll make better choices, they choose to not get behind the wheel when they’re intoxicated or impaired by another substance, they just choose to stay the night perhaps. Maybe they’ll just drive at better speed limits, they won’t pass in no passing zones, they’ll be smarter on the roadways and that’s really what it’s about is just getting people to, when they are on the roads, to follow the traffic laws.
Other citations over that Superbowl period included:
· 4 drivers charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license
· 12 REDDIs reported with 4 drivers contacted and ultimately determined not to be DUI
· 6 damage only crashes, 2 injury crashes, and 0 fatal crashes investigated by AST
· 169 citations were issued. 54 were issued for speeding and 19 were for seatbelt or other occupant restraint violations
