Alaska State Troopers have arrested two individuals in Seward on multiple drug-related counts after a two-month investigation.
According to the AST dispatch on the arrest, the investigation of 58-year-old Michele Spiers and 68-year-old John Hoogland, both of Seward, began on Jul. 23 of this year and culminated in the pair’s arrest on Thursday, Sep. 19.
On Thursday, Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers based in Seward executed a search warrant on a residence in Seward. There, Troopers discovered that Spiers and Hoogland were in possession of fentanyl pills, fentanyl powder, heroin, methamphetamine, hydrocodone, LSD, psilocybin mushrooms, dronabinol, and suboxone with intent to distribute. Troopers also discovered packaging materials, digital scales, $1,674 dollars, multiple cell phones, counterfeit money, and ledgers detailing the sales of illegal drugs for over four years.
Evidence seized during the search warrant implicated numerous other individuals and further charges are expected to follow.
Spiers and Hoogland were placed under arrest for three counts of misconduct involving controlled substances (MICS) in the second degree, four counts of misconduct involving controlled substances in the third degree, and one count of misconduct involving controlled substances in the fourth degree.
Additionally, Spiers was charged with one count of violating her conditions of release.
Both Spiers and Hoogland were remanded to Wildwood Pretrial without bail.
The investigation is ongoing.
