The Alaska State Troopers’ completed a successful 2014 Holiday Anti-DUI Enforcement effort which ended on January 4.
Trooper Spokeswoman Megan Peters said AST partnered with law enforcement around the state, working long hours in order to saturate the main roadways with their presence.
Peters: “And the whole point of that is people know we’re on the roadways and they can see us, they’ll make better choices, they choose to not get behind the wheel when they’re intoxicated or impaired by another substance, they just choose to stay the night perhaps. Maybe they’ll just drive at better speed limits, they won’t pass in no passing zones, they’ll be smarter on the roadways and that’s really what it’s about is just getting people to, when they are on the roads, to follow the traffic laws.
During that High Visibility Enforcement effort which began on December 10 troopers conducted the following investigations:
-74 misdemeanor DUI arrests, 6 felony DUI Arrests
– 80 drivers charged with driving with a suspended or revoked license.
