Troopers Respond To Calls About Driver Falling Asleep At The Wheel

Alaska State Troopers out of Soldotna responded to Mile 77 on the Sterling Highway early Thursday, after they received calls of a driver who had been actively falling asleep at the wheel, according to the online trooper dispatch.

On Thursday morning at around 3:00 a.m., Troopers responded after receiving numerous Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately complaints. Upon arrival, Troopers observed the vehicle in-question as a black 2013 Jeep failing to maintain a proper lane of travel.

The driver and sole occupant was identified as Dwight Davis, age 71 of Kenai. Investigation revealed that he had been contacted by police twice earlier in the night due to his poor driving behavior. Troopers report that he had been driving fatigued, falling asleep at the wheel.

Davis was arrested for Reckless Driving, and after he was found to be in possession of controlled substances, he was also charged for two counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree. He was transported to Wildwood Pretrial and remanded, then released to a responsible party.

The Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately program encourages drivers to call 911 when other drivers are behaving dangerously. Dangerous drivers risk death and injury not only to themselves, but to other innocent people both in their vehicle or in other vehicles on the road. Reckless, intimidating, aggressive behavior are some examples. Drunk, drugged, fatigued driving are others. Drivers illustrating signs of worsening control can put the lives of other people at risk.
