The Tsalteshi Trails Association will host an inaugural 1.5 mile family bike ride on Saturday on the newly opened Ski Hill Multi-Use Trail. The grand opening event on the new trails begins at 2 p.m. at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center parking lot. No registration is required. Children will need to ride with an adult.
The new Ski Hill Multi-Use Trail are open to walkers, dogs (pets) and bikes and is the first Kenai Refuge trail to be open to dogs and open to bikes. The 8-foot wide trail runs the length of Ski Hill Road on a winding compacted gravel trail suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
The new trail system will offer a Trail Stewards group. Members will contribute trail reports, photos and help keep refuge trails beautiful in partnership with refuge rangers and trail crew. On Saturday, potential Trail Stewards can meet a ranger at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the visitor center trailhead to sign up for this program.
Activity guides will be available at trailhead ranger stations all day Saturday, or access them on your device from the refuge Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/kenainationalwildliferefuge) starting Sunday.
