Radio and TV stations will broadcast a tsunami test message this Wednesday March 25.
Jeremy Zidek with the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management said residents in tsunami vulnerable areas of the state may even hear warning sirens.
Zidek: “There’s going to be a scroll message that says that it is a test, however some folks may not hear the audio that it is a test and it may just sound like it is an actual tsunami warning or look like an actual tsunami warning. So we want people to be aware of it, it’s going to take place at March 25 at 10:15 in the morning.”
After the emergency test, Zidek said Alaskans are invited to provide feedback.
Zidek: “Online at ready.alaska.gov, that survey will be available shortly after the test is completed. We want people to fill out that online survey so we know where the message was received, if it was garbled, if the message came over clear, what they saw, what they heard, that way we can go back and fix any mistakes in the system.”
That test will be cancelled in the event of any significant seismic activity like an earthquake.
