Alaska State Troopers will be at Tuesday’s Soldotna Chamber of Commerce luncheon; but don’t worry, no one is in trouble.

Katie Jacobson with the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce…

Jacobson: “Speakers from the Alaska State Troopers will be giving us some updates and new technology they are using to keep our communities safe. It’s going to be at Froso’s Restaurant from noon to 1pm.”

Trooper Captain Andy Greenstreet says they’ll be discussing new technology being used to document road accident, to mitigate road closures.

Those efforts follow an overall reduction in AST officers because of budget cuts to the Department of Public Safety from the last legislative session due to Alaska’s multi-billion dollar deficit.

Local enforcement saw significant cuts: the Soldotna based Bureau of Highway Patrol unit was disbanded; the cold case investigator unit was eliminated along with a domestic violence follow-up trooper position and a background investigator position.
