The opening round of pool play at the Alliance of Alaska Baseball state tournament featured four pairings including an opening game for the Alaska 20 Twins with all games played at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.

The Twins dropped a 5-1 contest to Eagle River and stand at 0-1 in the Alyeska Pool of the baseball state tournament.  The top top teams in the Alyeska Pool, after four days of pool play, advance to play the top two teams from the Denali Pool.

Twins 1 – Eagle River 5

Missed opportunities in the first inning for the Twins allowed Eagle River to build an early lead en route to  a 5-1 Wolves victory.

The Twins, in the top of the first inning, loaded the bases with no outs on three, straight singles; however, the Twins failed to plate a run, missing an opportunity to put the Wolves in an early hole.

Eagle River scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead.  Alaska 20 answered with a lone run in the fifth inning to tie the game at 1-1.  A three-run, fifth inning by the Wolves and a single Eagle River run in the sixth inning closed out the scoring.  Final Score: Eagle River 5, Twins 1
