Twins Drop Second Baseball State Tournament Game

Author: Coach Dan Gensel |

The South Anchorage Wolverines proved worthy of their #2 ranking and #1 seed in the Alyeska Pool of the Alliance of Alaska Baseball state tournament with a second-straight pool victory in the 2020 ABL baseball state tournament.

The Alaska 20 Twins fell to South 15-1 on Saturday in a 10-run rule, five-inning game at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.   The Twins fall to 0-2 in pool play and South improves to 2-0.  Both teams have one remaining pool play contest on Sunday.  The top two teams in each pool (Alyeska and Denali) advance to the semi-finals and championship rounds for the ABL state tournament.

Twins 1 – South 15

South opened with a seven-run, first inning and added seven runs in the third inning for a 14-1 lead.  A single run in the fourth inning and South downs the Twins 15-1 in the only 10-run rule contest so far in the tournament.

The Twins scored Mose Hayes on an RBI by Tanner Ussing for Alaska 20’s only run.  South pitching allowed only three hits; while the South bats collected 13 hits and 15 runs.
