Twins Overpower Eagle River For ABL League Victory

Solid pitching and a season-best, run-scoring performance pushed the Alaska 20 Twins to an impressive 12-2 victory over Eagle River in Alliance Baseball League play at Lee Jordan Field in Chugiak on Wednesday.

 

Twins 12 – Eagle River 2

Twins left-hander Sam Berry pitched five innings and allowed only three hits, all coming in the fifth inning; as Berry took a no-hitter into the fifth with the Twins leading 12-0.  Berry retired 12 of 13 batters through the first four innings, allowing a lone walk in the third inning.  Berry struck-out four batters in the 10-run rule, five inning game.

 

Offensively, the Twins recorded 12 runs on nine hits lead by a 3 for 3 day for Tanner Ussing, including three RBI.  Berry added two hits and two RBI.  The Twins set a season-best for run production with 12 runs in a league contest.

 

Twins 5 – Eagle River 12  Non-League Game

Eagle River downed the Twins 12-5 in the non-league, second game of the doubleheader.

 

Twins vs Dimond @ Homer on July 4th

Alaska 20 travels to Homer on July 4th for a “home” doubleheader against Dimond on the Homer baseball field.  Game one (league game) of the doubleheader is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Saturday’s games will be the Bill Miller Games of the Year in honor of Bill Miller and his dedicated efforts in American Legion baseball.  The Bill Miller Big Fish Wood Bat Tournament has been cancelled for 2020

ESPN 1140 AM continues the summer baseball broadcast season with coverage of the Alaska 20 Twins league contest against Dimond in Homer on Saturday, July 4th.  The league game will be broadcast on 1140AM and streamed live at www.radiokenai.com. Saturday’s game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. with the pre-game show beginning at 1:45 p.m.

Coverage of the Twins will include league road and home games and state tournament games in July.
