A seven-run , fourth inning for the Service Post 28 proved the downfall for the Kenai Post 20 Twins as the Cougars hold-off the Twins 8-7 in the American Legion State Baseball semi-final game on Monday afternoon at Mulcahy Park in Anchorage.
Service 8 – Twins 7
The Twins, trailing 8-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning, loaded the bases, scored a single run and left two men on base on the final out.
The Twin led early with a three-run, second inning, scoring Gabe Smith, Jacob Belger and Andrew Pieh. Both teams scored single runs in the third inning; the Twin leading 4-1 after three innings in the semi-final contest.
In the fourth, the Service Cougars scored seven runs on eight hits to take an 8-4 lead. The Twins answered with two runs in the fifth inning scoring Atticus Gibson and Hunter Williams.
The game closed with the Twins scoring one run in the seventh Final Score: Service 8, Twins 7.
On the mound for Post 20, Malachi Olsen allowed five runs on six hits through three innings; John Briner receives the loss going four innings and allowing three runs on six hits.
Service advances to the Alaska Legion State championship game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Mulcahy Park. Service will face Eagle River, winners over South 9-5 in Monday’s semi-final game.
