Twins Rally Over Service In Alliance League Opener

The Alaska 20 Twins rallied from a 9-3 deficit to down Service 10-9 with a seventh inning, walk-off RBI single by Jacob Belger scoring Davey Belger and giving the Twins their first league victory in their first home game.

 

Twins 10 – Service 9   League Game

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh of the scheduled seven inning game, Davey Belger worked a full-count into a base-on-balls to give the Twins a possible winning runner.  Belger advanced to second on a wild pitch to set up brother Jacob Belger for the late heroics.  Jacob delivered a base hit to right field, scoring a sliding Davey Belger with the winning run.

The Twins took an early lead over Service with a first inning run, scoring Mose Hayes.  Service answered with three runs in the top of the third inning.  The Twins tied the game at 3-3 in the third with a two-run, home run by Sam Berry.

Service again scored three runs in the fourth and fifth innings to lead 9-3.

Alaska 2o rallied with a two-run, fifth inning and a four-run, sixth inning.  Trailing 9-8 with two outs in the sixth, Mose Hayes would steal home to tie the game at 9-9.

Davey Belger retired the Cougars in the top of the ninth to set up the Twins for the game-winning run.

On the mound for the Twins, Moses Hayes threw three innings and allowed three runs while striking out six batters.  Davey Belger closed the final 3 1/3 innings allowing three runs.

Final score: Twins 10, Service 9

 

Twins 5 – Service 16   Non-League

Game two of the doubleheader, the non-league contest, goes to Service 16-5.

 

Live Baseball Returns To ESPN 1140AM

ESPN 1140 AM continues the summer baseball broadcast season with coverage of the Alaska 20 Twins league contest against Wasilla on Wednesday, June 24th.  The league game will be broadcast on 1140AM and streamed live at www.radiokenai.com.  Game time is set for 12:30; broadcast pre-game show begins at 12:15 p.m.

Coverage of the Twins will include league road and home games and state tournament games in July.
