The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District Administration will meet with site councils, and anyone interested in the K-12 education to present the $131 million General Fund preliminary budget for the school year beginning in August. The FY23 preliminary budget will be reviewed at these community forums. They are open to the public for review and participation as staff, parents, students, and community members will have an opportunity to learn about the budget, provide input, and ask questions, according to KPBSD’s Director of Finance, Liz Hayes.
Pegge Erkeneff, Director of Communications, Community and Government Relations for the KPBSD told KSRM that the first one is this evening at the Homer High School library at 6:00 PM:
“Also, this week, our annual budget forums are starting. For our area in the Central Peninsula, the one for people to plan for is Wednesday evening at 6 o’clock and that’s at Kenai Central High School library. That’s the only one that will have a zoom option. All the details are on social media and the website so people can listen in or show up in person. This is for the budget that will start in August with the new school year. The budget is put together and our Director of Finance will be there answering any questions. People can bring questions and thoughts about school district finances. That’s Wednesday night.”
Additionally, there will be another budget forum on Thursday, February 24th at the Seward High School library. The FY23 budget recommendation will be presented to the Board of Education on April 4, 2022, and transmitted to the Borough on April 5, 2022.
