Alaska State Troopers are reporting that a motorist called 911 Sunday evening at 7:44 p.m. reporting a two-vehicle head on collision on Cohoe Loop Road near mile post 12 in Kasilof. The resulting collision closed the road in both directions, which lasted for several hours.
Upon arrival, an investigation revealed Matthew Smith was driving a blue 2000 Chevrolet Silverado traveling eastbound on Cohoe Loop Road. Hannah Hill was driving a silver 2018 Ford Focus heading west on Cohoe Loop Road.
The investigation revealed that Hill was traveling at a high rate of speed and crossed the double yellow center line, according to the online trooper dispatch. Hill’s vehicle traveled into Smith’s lane of travel causing a head on collision. Both vehicles received disabling damage and were towed by Jenwar Towing.
Smith was transported to CPH for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Hill was pronounced deceased on scene as well as her passenger Jessica Neff. The next of kin for both Hill and Neff have been notified.
According to the Alaska State Troopers, North Cohoe Loop near Kasilof was open in both directions at mile 12, Monday, March 28th at 6:36 a.m.
An investigation is ongoing at this time.
