A two-vehicle crash caused a closure of both lanes on the Sterling Highway on Saturday afternoon. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, according to Alaska State Troopers.
At approximately 4:08 p.m. on Saturday, Troopers from Soldotna responded to the crash. Investigation determined that Grace Reger, age 57 of Crooper landing, was traveling southbound on the Sterling Highway near Mile 85.5 in her 2005 Mercedes SUV ML350.
Tyler Welch, age 38 of Seward, was traveling with Carie Given, age 40 of Seward. They were headed northbound in a 2013 Ford Taurus.
Welch crossed the centerline and collided head-on with Reger’s Mercedes. Reger and Given were transported to the Central Peninsula Hospital with serious injuries. Welch was transported to Anchorage with life-threatening injuries.
Welch was driving on a revoked Alaska Driver’s License that had been revoked because of a felony DUI conviction.
All were reported to have been wearing their seatbelts.
According to Trooper Dispatch, the investigation is continuing. KSRM News will provided more details when they become available.
