The Tyonek Fire, which started May 19th and burned between the villages of Tyonek and Beluga, is currently mapped at 1,906 acres.
The fire is considered to be 70% contained, and full containment is expected by end-of-day Wednesday.
On Sunday, significant mop up occurred in all divisions of the fire. Operations for today will focus on completing mop up and beginning back haul of unused or no longer needed equipment. A community meeting will be held this evening at 7:30pm in Beluga.
While concern continues over the dry and windy conditions in the area, there is wetting precipitation forecast beginning this evening and continuing for the next few days.
No serious injuries have occurred on this fire to date. However, a significant safety concern for firefighters continues to be standing trees which have been weakened by the fire and may topple in the windy conditions being encountered.
Significant numbers of resources were reassigned yesterday and will be reassigned today to the Funny River Fire on the Kenai Peninsula. A total of 260 personnel are still assigned to Tyonek this morning, along with 1 helicopter.
