Tyonek Man Arrested For Assault In Third Degree On Police Officer

Alaska State Troopers on Saturday around 9:45 a.m. with a K-9 unit traveled to the village of Tyonek via state aircraft Helo 2 attempting to contact 44-year-old Joseph Standifer of Tyonek for several active felony arrest warrants.

 

Shortly after arriving in the village, Standifer was observed driving a Chevrolet Suburban away from the airport, according to the online trooper dispatch. The vehicle was found stopped a short distance from the airport. Standifer reportedly started to drive away and continued to drive for one mile before stopping in the middle of the road where he exited the vehicle wielding a shotgun.

 

Standifer took a position of cover near the front of the vehicle. While being given verbal commands, he loaded a round into the chamber, walked to the other side of the vehicle and was seen holding the shotgun.

 

Eventually, Standifer gave up and was taken into custody for the warrants and one count of assault in the third degree on a police officer.
