The Kenai Peninsula Borough’s village of Tyonek was chosen by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to receive a grant for conservation work.
The $200,000 grant was awarded through the Tribal Wildlife Grant program.
The Village of Tyonek, partnering with the Tyonek Tribal Conservation District, plan to use the funds to remove a barrier to fish passage on Old Tyonek Creek.
That will open up eight miles of river to Chinook and coho salmon.
