U.S. Nationals Close With Classic Sprint Races

The 2018 U.S. Cross Country Ski Championships, featuring championship Nordic racing through at Kincaid Park in Anchorage, closed-out on Monday with the Classic Sprint races.

 

The national championships for Nordic skiing were dominated by skiers with Alaska ties, including Alaskans claiming all individual championships in both freestyle and classic events (note: Sweden’s Hedda Baangman won the women’s 20-kilometer, mass-start classic race.  Caitlin Patterson, of Anchorage, was named U.S. champion based on rule that foreign athletes can not claim national title).

 

Women’s & Junior Women’s Classic Sprint

Caitlin Patterson completed a sweep of all Nordic titles with a victory in the Women’s Classic Sprint, compleing the course in 3:39.58.

Kenai’s Addison Gibson was eliminated with a 56th place in the quarterfinals; then, raced one last time in a Junior quarterfinal.

Men’s & Junior Men’s Classic Sprint

Reese Hanneman, who skis for Alaska Pacific University, won the men’s classic sprint in 3:20.62.

Kenai’s Karl Danielson was eliminated with a 59th place in the quarterfinals; then, raced one last time in a Junior quarterfinal.
