Alaska’s U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R-AK) met with President-elect Donald Trump’s Secretary of the U.S. Treasury designee, Steve Mnuchin.
Senator Sullivan described the meeting as productive and stated in a press release: “We discussed several issues of vital importance to our state and country that I have worked on since joining the Senate, including energy independence, regulatory reform, robust economic growth, infrastructure, and comprehensive tax reform. I also appreciated the opportunity to have a detailed discussion on the powerful tools at the Treasury Department’s disposal to combat terrorist states like Iran. I look forward to working with incoming Secretary Mnuchin upon his confirmation.”
Mnuchin previously worked for Goldman Sachs. Since his designation he’s promised to focus on boosting economic growth and focus on the American worker.
Mnuchin: “We’re gonna have the most significant middle income tax cut since Reagan, we’re going to incorporate the child care program, so this is, this is gonna be a tremendous boon to the economy.”
He says he is excited to get to work in the new administration.
Mnuchin: “Our number one priority is gonna be the economy, get back to 3 to 4 per cent growth, we believe that’s very sustainable and focus on things for the American worker, that’s absolutely our priority.”
While some consider the successful banker’s resume an asset, critics are scrutinizing Mnuchin’s involvement with a group that profited off of the 2008 housing market crash.
