The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District instituted Universal Masking for Soldotna High School, Soldotna Middle School and several other KPBSD schools on October 4th in an attempt to curb the number of students out of school due to quarantine or close contact.
The mandate was designed to be reevaluated on October 15th and with the reevaluation, the mandates on both Soldotna High School and Soldotna Middle School have been lifted.
KPBSD Superintendent Clayton Holland stated; “They’ve done really well and so those schools are back to that status. We keep looking for those numbers to keep dropping around the state; that’s our hope. I think the hope for everyone is we’ll see that trend go down.”
Soldotna High School Principal Sarge Truesdell released that on Friday, October 15th, SoHi had dropped to only 15 students absent from school on covid protocols; a decrease from 120 students on October 4th. Truesdell credited the masking plan for aiding in the reduction of students missing school and allowed for SoHi to end the first quarter with a vast majority of the student body in attendance.
