At the last meeting, the Kenai Outdoor Opportunity Location Committee decided the city needs a bigger stage than initially planned for the proposed event space; members will hear updated cost estimates Tuesday evening.

City Manager Rick Koch previously presented an estimated cost of about $237,000 for the initial 20 by 30 foot stage recommendation the committee had come up with.

Koch: “There’ll be an increase in the cost estimate based on the stage size being doubled from what had been the previous estimate.”

At their November 24 meeting, KOOL Committee members decided they would like to recommend a 30 by 40 foot stage for the Millenium Square event space.

Koch will also be working with the committee to develop an outline of the recommendations presentation that will go to the city council sometime in January.

Koch: “I’m envisioning something that’s a bound document that goes through each of the components of the recommended event park as well as a lead in that describes the process the committee went through to get to that.”

Committee members have been working since August to provide recommendations about the feasibility and timeline for an event space in Kenai.

The KOOL Committee’s Tuesday, December 15, meeting will begin at 6:30 pm in the Kenai City Hall Chambers.
