The Alaska Department of Fish and Game reports Upper Cook Inlet Commercial Fishing Announcement No. 15 opens commercial salmon fishing with drift gillnets in the Expanded Kasilof Section and the Expanded Kenai Section of the Upper Subdistrict of Upper Cook Inlet from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday July 13, 2022.
As of July 11, 2022, the cumulative sockeye salmon escapement estimate for the Kasilof River was 232,000 and average run timing was 38%, and the year-end escapement projection was 599,000 sockeye salmon. Commercial fishing in the aforementioned waters is warranted to harvest sockeye salmon returning to the Kasilof River.
