To celebrate American Adventures Month, the Forest Service’s Alaska Region is inviting the public to explore the vast and breathtaking landscapes of the Chugach and Tongass National Forests.
“August is a time to celebrate the essence of adventure and reflect on the natural treasures found in the nation’s wild spaces,” the USFS said in a press release.
The Chugach and Tongass are home to 22 million acres of public land, providing unique treats to all who choose to visit. Whether camping in the majestic backcountry on the Chugach or kayaking alongside the grandiose fjords on the Tongass, adventure abounds for locals and visitors this month.
“American Adventures Month is all about dedicating time to recreate responsibly and explore the outdoors in a new way,” said Media Relations Specialist Paige Wharton. “It’s about awakening that adventurous spirit that lives inside all of us and doing that one thing you’ve always wanted to do.”
A great way to get out in the forests is to consider staying in a remote cabin. “Alaska is home to some of the most beautiful and rugged landscapes in the world,” shared Catherine Cody, a media relations manager for the National Forest Foundation. The Foundation is a partner to the Forest Service on the Alaska Cabins Project. “Alaska’s National Forests are home to 200 remote cabins available to the public, offering a true American Adventurers experience for anyone who visits.”
Explorers will undoubtedly find adventure worth celebrating in Alaska’s unmatched national forests.
