Last week Veterans Administration representatives met with local veterans to talk about healthcare developments in Alaska.
VA Chief Nurse Linda Boyle said the administration is looking to change their methodology for healthcare.
Boyle: “If you look at traditional medicine, you go in to see a doctor, they look at your blood pressure, they look at your cholesterol, they tell you to quit smoking, they tell you to stop doing these behaviors, you need to exercise more, etcetera. That’s telling me what’s the matter with me, it’s not finding out what would motivate me potentially to make those changes, to find out what matters to me.”
She said that at some other national VA centers, practicing Tai Chi has been implemented and been found to be effective.
Boyle said she will continue to investigate how the Alaska VA can follow suit and change the ways healthcare is administered.
