Variety of Projects on Soldotna Council Agenda

Phases of four different city projects are scheduled to be introduced at tonight’s Soldotna City Council meeting with public hearing scheduled at a later date.

An ordinance to increase funding by $16,000 in the Soldotna Airport runway expansion project will have a public hearing September 9.

Previously Lee Frey detailed a what the current phase of that project includes.

Frey: “They’re going to be doing some aerial imaging of the airport that’s going to include some land surveying, some aerial surveying, they’ll be doing a lot of 3D imaging of not just the airport but areas around the airport to look for clearances of trees for all the different aircraft flying in and out of there. They’ll be getting some GIS data from all that and it’ll be uploaded into FAA’s database. That’s the main goal of that phase.”

The ordinance states that additional FAA monies became available and based on the municipal matching grant the city is performing the improvements under, the city needs to approve the additional funding.

Also up for introduction: a resolution approving a $197,000 contract to Treeline Construction to complete a trail project from Centennial Park to the Soldotna Visitor Center.

Foster Construction is scheduled to be awarded to complete a $120,000 drainage project in Soldotna is also slated to be introduced.

As we previously reported, the council is scheduled to introduce an ordinance to allow fires in designated spots at the Arc Lake parking area.

That meeting will begin at 6pm tonight, August 26, at the Soldotna City Hall.
