Patrick Slate of Soldotna appeared in court for a status hearing on assault charges he incurred on January 11 during an alleged domestic violence dispute.
During the hearing, the 21-year-old victim requested for the judge to allow contact with Slate, both telephonically and in person.
The state attorney Kelly Lawson opposed the request for complete contact, stating there was concern about the influence Slate may have over the victim and her mental state due to her injuries from the alleged assault.
Judge Charles Huguelet ruled that the victim may communicate with Slate by telephone but not in person via visitation.
Afterwards, the victim told us…
“Well obviously I wish he had given me physical contact as well but I am happy for the phone contact. We’re not allowed to discuss the case which is reasonable as they record everything but we can talk candidly.”
Slate was arrested on January 11 when Soldotna Police responded to a welfare check at the residence and discovered a 21-year-old woman had been immersed in a pot of boiling liquid, sustaining 2nd degree burns across her face, neck, and upper torso. Initially her injuries were life threatening.
Slate is facing two counts of assault in the first degree-domestic violence and one count of assault in the fourth degree.
