Visitation By Appointment Permitted At Most DOC Institutions, Wildwood Correctional Center Closed

The Alaska Department of Corrections, as of Monday, November 8th, has published a visitation notice, which says that in-person and attorney visitation by appointment is permitted at all institutions unless otherwise specified.

 

The facilities that remain closed to visitation include Anchorage Correctional Center, Anvil Mountain Correctional Center, Fairbanks Correctional Center, Hiland Mountain Correctional Center, and Wildwood Correctional Center, however Wildwood Pretrial is open for visitation.

 

The Department of Corrections reports that all visitors will be subject to COVID-19 screening prior to entering visitation areas, which includes questions about symptoms, travel, and a temperature check.

 

According to the CDC’s guidance on managing COVID-19 in correctional and detention facilities, staff and incarcerated/detained persons are encouraged to wear a cloth face mask as much as safely as possible to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 that are created when a person talks, coughs or sneezes.

 

Visitors are also required to wear masks. When visiting, alcohol-based hand sanitizer will be provided in visitor entrances, exits, and waiting areas. Visitors are instructed to postpone their visit if they have COVID-19 symptoms.
