Volleyball Conference Tournaments Crown Champions

The Northern Lights Conference and Southcentral Conference volleyball tournaments crowned champions with Kodiak winning the NLC title and Anchorage Christian Schools taking the Southcenral title.

 

Northern Lights Conference Volleyball

The NLC volleyball tournament featured three days of competition at KCHS.

The Kodiak Bears defeated Wasilla for the NLC title and the #1 NLC seed into the upcoming state 4A tournament.

In the championship game qualifier, Soldotna fell to Wasilla in a four-game match 21-25, 27-25, 25-13 and 25-23. The Stars finish tournament play in third place and earn a state #3 NLC berth to the state championships.

Friday NLC Tournament Results

SoHi 0 – Kodiak 3

The Kodiak Bears remained unbeaten in NLC play with a three-game sweep of the Soldotna Stars in the championship qualifier on Friday.

Kenai 1 – Wasilla 3

The Kardinals season ended on Friday with a four-game match loss to the Wasilla Warriors.  The Warriors advance to the championship game against Kodiak on Saturday.

Thursday NLC Tournament Results

The Soldotna Stars volleyball team qualified to the ASAA 4A State Volleyball Championships and advances into the Northern Lights Conference winner’s-bracket semi-final game on Friday night at KCHS on the strength of a pair of tournament wins on Thursday.

SoHi defeated #2 seed Wasilla to advance with a three-game sweep of the Warriors 25-12, 25-21 and 25-21.  Lindsay Wong and Sylvia Tuasalua each recorded nine kills in the Wasilla match.

The Stars opened NLC tournament play with a four-game victory over Colony.

The Kenai Kardinals split two matches in the tournament’s first day, defeating Palmer in the first round in three straight 25-21, 25-17 and 25-22 and falling to the #1 seed Kodiak Bears in the second round; a three game sweep for the Bears.  Abby Beck lead Kenai with 15 kills in the Palmer match.

 

 

Southcentral Conference Volleyball

The Southcentral Conference volleyball tournament featured two days of competition at Nikiski High.  The #1 seed ACS and the #2 seed Grace battled for the championship on Saturday with ACS downing Grace in five games, the Lions winning the decisive game 15-13.  Both teams qualify to the state 3A volleyball tournament.  The Homer Mariners earn the third seed with a vicvtory on Saturday over Seward.

The #4 seed Nikiski Bulldogs fell in its opener on Friday to Houston in a five-game match, Houston winning game five 15-10.  The Bulldogs closed-out their season with a four-game match loss to Homer on Saturday.
