The October 7 advisory vote of whether or not to implement vote by mail only for the borough saw 69% of residents vote no however that is not the last of it.
Homer Assembly Member Bill Smith helped create the proposition to see what voters wanted. This advisory vote differs from Prop A in the fact that an ordinance and resolution to implement it have already been brought before the assembly but postponed.
Smith: “I asked for the postponement to be not taken up until the 2nd meeting in January and procedurally that was because we’ll have three new people on the assembly and they’ll have time to get there feet on the ground and get it kind of together.”
Those were postponed in the July 22 meeting.
As of today the tally for absentee, questioned, by-mail, and special needs ballots is 1,964 however more are likely to come in the mail and some may not be eligible.
The final count will be totaled next Tuesday, October 14.
