Walgreens Looking At Soldotna For New Location

You can expect to see some big changes at the Soldotna Y though a time frame for those changes is yet to be determined.

We spoke with Soldotna City Planner John Czarneski about what steps the California-based Aventine Development Corporation have taken thus far for the installation of Walgreens.

Czarneski: “Here’s what I don’t have, I don’t have any details on the development as far as when it’s going to happen, when they’re going to break ground, when they are going to close on the property. I don’t have any of that information. All I’ve got is that they’ve applied for the preliminary plat and that has gone through the City and is now going to go to the Borough. And then they would have to have the next step is to apply for the site plan.”

So far Walgreens is slated to occupy two parcels of the land and Czarneski stated there are still many steps before the land sale is official. He also said that the owners of the businesses currently in buildings at the “Y” have been working with the property owners to suss out an exact date and find new spaces.

Tammy Davis, owner of Chez Moi Boutique, has already found a place to move her shop despite different deadlines she has heard.

Davis: “We were told that we needed to vacate and be out by the 8th of April so I kind of set mine based on that, and the way my building unit that I chose to move into kind of worked really well with that. It’s all coming together really nicely. And then I have heard a rumor from someone over in the other building that they were told maybe the middle of May now.”

Davis added that she received a legitimate email for the April 8th deadline whereas the other was just hearsay. She also said other shops like Fine Thyme Cafe, River City Books, Susan’s Bath and Body, and the Gourmet Deli have not found spaces to rent and are hoping to stay in close vicinity to each other.
