Walker Cancels Executive Proclamation

Governor Bill Walker is taking the Legislature’s word that they will vote on his appointments before the end of the Legislative session.

 

Earlier this week the House and Senate cancelled a joint session on the confirmations which was to be held this morning. Wednesday Walker issued an executive proclamation ordering them to meet, but last night the Senate accepted a House invitation to hold the hearing on Sunday.

 

It’s another step in a leadership scuffle which has been brewing all year.

 

Walker said he issued the proclamation because he saw indications that lawmakers would not consider his nominations. In February the Senate President’s office requested a legal memo explaining what would happen if the Legislature didn’t take up the appointments.

 

The Senate President and House Speaker promised Walker they’ll take up the issue Sunday. Walker says he trusts them.
