‘Choose Respect’ marches were a cornerstone of the Parnell Administration, but yesterday Governor Bill Walker led the rally in Juneau from the steps of the Capitol…
Gov. Walker: “They need to know that we’re not an Administration that’s going to stand by and let these statistics define our state.”
Walker tied his proposal for expanded Medicaid into the gathering, saying some Alaskans may be staying in abusive relationships because they depend on their current healthcare coverage.
He also said expansion could help prevent repeat-offenses…
Gov. Walker: “We want to make sure that those who are incarcerated, when they come out of incarceration that there’s programs available through Medicaid expansion that they can get the mental health counseling and they don’t repeat the reason they got there in the first place. The list goes on and on.”
Roughly 100 people were in attendance.
