Bill Walker said he’s proud to be the governor of Alaska but not proud of Alaska’s sexual assault and domestic violence numbers.
This morning the State Medical Examiner’s office released the findings of the investigation human remains found in March on a 4×4 trail. Kenai Police and the FBI used the results to determine that Brandon Jividen shot his girlfriend 23-year-old Rebecca Adams and her daughters, 5-year-old Michelle Hundley and 3-year-old Jaracca Hundley, as well as their dog Sparks, before turning the gun on himself.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was quickly brought in last year when the family’s landlord reported the rent being late, which was unusual.
Agent Richard Van Veldhuisen said the findings today were conclusive.
Van Veldhuisen: “The FBI accepts the Medical Examiner’s report, we were providing support to the Kenai Police and basically our support is complete unless they ask for additional assistance.”
Governor Walker spoke with KSRM about the conclusion of the nearly year-long missing Kenai family of four investigation, relating it to the broader issue of domestic violence in Alaska.
Gov. Walker: “We need to use every tool that we have available legally to ensure that these numbers come down. And it’s not just the numbers it’s the individuals, the victims and what they deal with the rest of their lives, the rest of their lives is just horrific. We will do anything and everything that we can to change those numbers. I want to be able to celebrate having the lowest numbers in the nation and not the highest.”
He stated that awareness programs such as Erin’s Law might combat situations that lead to heartache such as this.
