Alaskan Walmarts, including Kenai’s, have changed the way guns for sale are displayed after an incident in the Eagle River store.
Anchorage Police Communications Director Jennifer Castro said officers responded April 29 for a man who had stolen over $3,000 worth of guns and merchandise from the Eagle River Walmart.
Castro: “Further investigation by police found that there was a male who had taken a pair or wire cutters from the hardware section of the store and proceeded over to the gun counter and cut the cables that were securing two different rifles. The male took the rifles and also took other merchandise from the store.”
Police identified the suspect as 27 year-old Miguel Batista, who is believed to be an Anchorage resident, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.
Castro: “So if anybody knows of his whereabouts they can certainly give police a call, you can call our non-emergency line at 786-8900, press zero to speak with a dispatcher and provide us that information. And if people want to remain anonymous to provide us that information they can use our crimestoppers tip line online at anchoragecrimestoppers.com or 561-STOP (561-7867).”
Kenai’s Walmart did confirm that gun displays have been changed but was unable to comment on the issue at the time.
